Negative Ions

Infrared & Health : The Relationship

A simple understanding of positive and negative ions will help you to predict the chemical formulae of most acids, bases and salts. Some atoms e.g. Sodium atoms, Potassium atoms, Fluorine atoms can easily turn into ions by losing or gaining electrons. The most reactive elements do this very readily. Elements like Neon, Argon, Krypton, and Xenon are very unreactive: it is virtually impossible for their atoms to lose or gain electrons. This means that it is not possible to find Neon ions or Argon ions etc. It is the negative ion of oxygen that affects us the most. Negative ions are odorless, tasteless, and invisible molecules that we inhale in abundance in certain environments.

Normally only about one atom in 100,000,000,000,000,000 is ionized making a total of maybe 1000-2000 ions per cubic centimeter (that's like a handful of planets floating in a circle 4 billion miles in diameter). On the seashore, where water is always falling, you have about 2000 negative to 1000 positive. That seems to be the ratio that human beings respond to most favorably. THE MOST ANION GENERATION MACHINES ARE BASICALLY TOXIN REMOVAL MACHINES LIKE DETOX FOOT SPA. Concentrations of negative ions at different places is given below to make it understand more better.

Research has shown that falling water creates thousands of negative ions by splitting other wise neutral particles of air, freeing electrons to manifest their vitalizing function. These electrons join up with smaller air particles, thus giving them a predominantly negative charge. You may have experienced the power of negative ions when you last set foot on the beach or walked beneath a waterfall. While part of the euphoria is simply being around these wondrous settings and away from the normal pressures of home & work, the air circulating in mountains & the beach is said to contain tens of thousands of negative ions - Much more than the average home or office building, which contain dozens/hundreds & many register a flat zero.

Basic Understanding of Negative Ions

Ions are charged particles in the air that are formed in nature in different ways. One way is when enough energy acts upon a molecule such as carbon dioxide, oxygen, or water, an electron is ejected from the molecule, leaving a positively charged ion. The displaced electron attaches itself to a nearby molecule, which then becomes a negatively charged ion. Ions are basically of three types:-

• Anions

are negatively charged ions, formed when an atom gains electrons in a reaction. Anions are negatively charged because there are more electrons associated with them than there are protons in their nuclei.

• Cations

are positively charged ions, formed when an atom loses electrons in a reaction, forming an 'electron hole'. Cations are the opposite of anions, since cations have fewer electrons than protons.

• Radicals

or radical ions are atom groups that contain unpaired electrons and are highly reactive.

Generally speaking, negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy," says Pierce J. Howard, PhD, author of The Owners Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind Brain Research and director of research at the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, N.C.

Negative ionization of the air does a superb job of eliminating most tiny particles that float in the air. They are normally suspended in the air (even when the air in the room seems calm) just by the normal convective air currents. You've seen dust floating in a beam of sunlight shining in the window, haven't you? Well, when with abundant of negative ions in the room, you see very little (if any) of that. It's really quite impressive to experience. That is the reason they can help people with allergies: they help remove dust, pollen, mold spores, and other allergens from the air. Negative ions cause allergens such as pollen, mold spores, dust, and animal dander floating in the air (which have either a neutral or a positive charge) to be attracted to and stick to each other, forming 'clumps' (because opposite charges attract). These clumps of particles then become heavy enough so that gravity can pull them down to the floor, where they can be vacuumed up, rather than staying in suspension where they can be breathed in and cause allergic reactions.

On the physical side, they have given relief from hay fever. sinusitis. bronchial asthma. allergies. migraine and burn and post-operative pains. Along with the burn pain relief, they lesson infections dry the burns faster, heal them more quickly and leave less scarring.

"Remember that feeling you've experienced near a waterfall or high in the mountains? Those are two places that thousands of negative ions occur. They create an effect on human biochemistry."

"While ionization of the air is mandatory in many European and Russian hospitals and work places, it has only recently come to light in our country with the growing problem of toxic air in our urban environments."
